Columbus OH -- Dinner suggestions

  • Share

We're coming to Columbus from Cincinnati in a few weeks for a Blue Jackets game and would like to catch an early dinner, like 5 p.m. Looking for something on the west/southwest side of town, and something that takes reservations. We've been to Short North but I don't want to deal with the parking. We love Barcelona but that's a little too high-end for this trip. Thought about Thurston's but don't want to bother with the wait. Any thoughts?

  1. Can you be more specific? There's a pretty big gulf between Thurmans (which is what I think you mean) and Barcelona.

Harvest is excellent and shouldn't have much of a wait at 5pm (but does not take reservations). Akai Hana has excellent sushi and takes reservations, but it a little far from the Arena district. Basi is solid, though it is close to the Short North and you might have to walk a couple of blocks from your parking spot.

We like Tip Top quite a bit. They don't take reservations, but I can't imagine having to wait for a table at 5pm.

Some solid recommendations, I would just add Katzingers for a somewhat quick dinner. Think a blend of Kats deli in New York and Zingerman's in Ann Arbor MI. Only open until like 7PM usually.

Yeah, Thurman's, that's what I meant. I was only trying to tell you what I was familiar with. Thanks for the recommendations.

      2. I like Explorer's Club just a bit south of Thurman. They take reservations on OpenTable. You have to park on the street but it's not too hard to find parking on High Street or the side street by the restaurant in that area. It's casual and fun and the food is great.

        1. I also like Explorer's Club in that part of town. Red Brick Tap & Grill also just (re)opened up in Merion Village just a month ago. Harvest and Katzinger's would be good ideas too if you're going to German Village
