  1. You think a lock is going to foil that dog? He moves a chair in order to climb onto the counter. Maybe he can be trained to do light housekeeping in exchange for chicken nuggets.

    1. I crack up every time I watch this video.

The dog seems to be in a little moral quandary about whether to go through with what she knows she can do.

        1. re: brucesw

I didn't see the hesitation being due to moral quandary. More like logistical concerns. Because after he/she snags the first piece of food, that dog is back up there in a flash, now confident of the path to heaven.

Fortunately, my beagle is not as smart nor as agile.

      2. It's a good thing microwaves don't open from the top down... that is one smart pooch!

My built in microwave does. Thank goodness our dogs don't get into things like this. They are very well behaved when home alone. We're very lucky.
Now I shudder at getting a new puppy...what trouble will he get into??

          1. re: monavano

LOL! I just heated myself a microwave fish dinner for lunch and when I went to take it out of the microwave, one of our cats was sitting on the counter with her nose pressed to the microwave - thank goodness she doesn't have the ability to actually open the door or I would have had to find another lunch. :P

        2. My brother and his wife have a beagle. There aren't chairs that close by. She does, however, open lower drawers and use them as steps.

I've never had a beagle; never realized they were so clever.

            1. re: brucesw

They truly are. I had one long ago, who learned how to open the front door, ring the doorbell, and then hide in the shrubs. It was his favorite game, and our least favorite.

                That is hysterical!
I thought my cat was smart opening round door knobs.

That is AWESOME. Dogs are the best.

Bahaha I love it. I have basset hounds. It's amazing that even though they are sort of related to beagles, they really aren't that smart. Cute though.

                2. most of the scent hounds are notorious counter surfers, but this one is especially clever in her manipulation of the chair.
                  great video.
                  thanks for posting

                  1. Great video, but I was worried he was going to accidentally turn on the stove and set the house on fire!

                      1. Man, he couldn't even wait for the toaster oven to cool down before getting the chicken nuggets.

                        What a smart dog.

                        1. since we don't know what happens before the video started.. are we sure that dog didn't put the nuggets in the oven in the first place?? seems entirely possible to me...

You know. That is how I felt. The dog appears to show that he is afraid of the heat. He was doing a lot of "touch and go".

I think oven mitts for dogs' mouths may be better.

                              1. A beagle is just a nose with a dog attached. They are stubborn and smart, but this is really impressive. He got the chair moved to the right spot, tried everything several times, and got what he wanted. Puts my cat to shame -- all he can do is get the pantry door open and tear up any bag of cat food within reach.
