Green Mango Salad (Thai style) - North of the city

TeacherFoodie Jan 10, 2014 02:11 PM

Fellow CHers - I find I am often craving Mango salad. Please let me know where one can get a good mango salad in the Finch to 16th, Kennedy to Yonge area.

I tried the one at Congee Queen at Don Mills/Steeles and it was okay but not great.

Thanks for your help!

Are there other dishes that are good here? Thinking about take-out for one night this week.

The massaman is very tasty with creamy smooth coconut milk sauce (the result of long low heat cooking). I also like the red curry and pad thai.

Are you craving for the truly green mango salad or Thai mango salad?
Kinnaree's mango salad is using less-ripe yellow mango. The true green mango - absolutely not ripe - could be too sour.

Is this the sort of Green Mango Salad you're looking for?

If so, me too. I've tried lots of Thai restaurants in town, but their salads are sweet and mild, made with quite ripe mangoes.

A little south of what you're looking for but the mango salad in Kinnaree Thai on Vic Park/Ellesmere is delicious. Probably one the best one I've had in Toronto.

EDIT: Oops, replied before reading the other replies. As you can see, Kinnaree comes highly recommended.

I don't know how authentic the taste is but I like the mango salad at Spoon & Fork Plus York Mills/UpJohn. And the pad thai is not orange in colour. Operated by chinese.

Thanks to everyone who replied so far. Just to clarify, I am definitely looking for the sweeter version.

+1 for Kinnaree especially if you go during lunch as it comes with the lunch specials. You get a very generous portion that is a perfect start to an authentic Thai lunch.

The lunch prices are amazing! Thanks for the tip... may try to get there tomorrow if I have time.

Thanks for the recs for Kinarree Thai! I stopped in on my way home from work and picked up mango salad (of course!), coconut rice and mango chicken. Everything was delicious and the ladies in the restaurant were very nice. If you haven't been here - go, or pick up, or order - it's great!

I went back to Kinnaree Thai today and had lunch. Their mango salad is the best I've had. I had the cashew chicken and rice and it came with mango salad and spring roll. Great deal. Highly recommend this place. Thanks again to those who suggested it!
