Seaweed Salad

Danybear Jan 10, 2014 08:14 AM

Big fan of seaweed salad served in sushi/Japanese restos. Trying to find a grocery store type source is proving difficult. Grocery stores seem to charge MORE for a bulk purchase than a similar amount in a resto. What am I doing wrong?

If you are talking about Goma Wakame (the sweet, sesame, neon green concoction), your best bet price-wise is to the Freezer section in oriental stores, instead of the refrigerated section. Stores and restaurants alike charge alot for thawing the salad for you.
You can find them at T&T, Koreatown, and Chinatown. They usually charge for $6 for a sizeable bag, instead of $4.99 for a small plastic container.

So does the Vaughan Costco. And it's fantastic. Tastes exactly like what you would get in a Japanese Restaurant.

They have it in bulk at one of the fish shops at st. lawrence market. It's the shop at the south east corner on the main floor.

+1 for CostCo same as the one served at the restaurants.
TNT Supermarket is another option though a bit pricier (who can beat CostCo for Value/Quality anyway)
