<content>Agreed, rudeboy. Reviews like this make me distrust local media. The juxtaposition of Hog Island with Katz's is...*enraging*. Aaaargh! Does anyone ever criticize anything in print around here?

      <content>To be fair...
TXL&amp;C is under steakhouses.

Their Asian list was only missing PF Chang's to make it a truly exhaustive list of Asian eateries in this city.

I love how sarcasm fails in print.</content>

<content>Is there one also on 183 and Ohlen? I remember eating there years ago and thinking "well, that was pretty good bbq." But I never went back. Someone was telling me the other day, coincidentally, that a husband and wife team owns it.</content>

      <content>Rudey,
183 and Ohlen sounds like Mann's.
I've heard it's good but overpriced. They supposedly mail coupons to people in the surrounding 'hoods. I've got friends that live there.
I've never tried it.

And Cranky,
No, print media in this town is advertising. If they happen to mention a good restauraunt, it is an aberration, not the result of a wonderful dining experience. I mean Star Seeds? I still like it becuase I loved it in college. I could stuff myself for nothing! It's decent greasy diner food in a dirty environment (i know that's changed/ing) with staff that treated you like a deaf, retarded subhuman but was unable to get any order 100% correct.
I must say that Rudeboy's short comment set the tone quite well and allowed me to laugh as I read the list.
Thank God for Chowhound. Before I found this site, I was wading waist deep in the restaurant equivalent of cloacal effluvia and dreaming of roses.</content>

<content>I have eaten at Donn's several times and admit is is very good. They use hickory to cook with , so the taste is a little more familiar to me (grew up on Kansas City BBQ . Beef ribs are very good, as are the green beans.

No-frills place with a walk-through line, styrofoam cups, indoor picnic table seating and good prices. Beats the hell out of Salt Lick , which I pass up on the way to Austin from Wimberley.</content>

<content>Wow, that was good for a laugh. A few weeks ago I actually had to unsubscribe from the Statesman after reading that XL article on what made a good flour tortilla. I just couldn't take it anymore.

But I do miss the unintentional humor.

<content>Yes, much of it seemed ridiculous if I thought about it. It's stupid to include big chains in a list like this. But that's just the kind of thing I'd expect to see, so I didn't even really think about all the crap on there on first read.

I was also distracted from that by the fact that they did mention a few little out-o-the-way places such as Evita's Botanitas, Incocente's, and Joe's Bakery.

I thought the word Cafe being interpreted as greasy spoon diner was interesting. That's an old southern thing, it seems like.</content>
