Did this old school restaurant ever reopen?

I had my first Mexican meal at that place back in the early 60s. Made me a life long lover of Mexican food.

No... Gone for many, many years. Owners sold their house in Bklyn Hts & then closed the place & moved. Their 20something kids ran it for the last years & the family concentrated on the wholesale fresh chips & tortilla making biz upstairs (closed at the same time). It wasn't very good for awhile before the closing.

Steve, how long ago did the parents move? I must have only gone post that time as I thought the food was terrible.

No, their kids ran it when they were still around. I moved here in '81 & loved buying bags of fresh chips and tortillas from them for years. However, the restaurant food was always very uneven. They were also very rigid and had an entire page of various combinations but wouldn't let customers deviate at all. Somewhere around 1990 (maybe before), it lost its way & I think they just went thru the motions. With no competition, it was really the best of a couple of bad options.... Thank god for Sunset Park.

Ah. Only experienced it in the '90s and I thought it was a poor simulation of mexican food. Mezcal's on Atlantic was better though still not great.
