The Orchard in Kennett Square has closed

Closed as of January 1, 2014. Farewell message on Facebook from Owner/Chef Gary Trevisani. He hints he won't be disappearing for good.

Not one of our favorites in the area, but I know others will miss it. I'll be curious to see what goes in that space.

The Orchard is right in my neighborhood -- maybe even the single closest restaurant to where I live -- yet I only ate there 2 or maybe 3 times. There was something about that place that just didn't feel right to me. The food was fairly good, but something about the service annoyed me. It felt somewhat pretentious-- they'd swoop your wine tote and its contents away when you arrived, and your wine would be kept at a separate table. So if our glasses needed replenishing, or we were ready to switch from white to red, we'd have to wait for a server to notice. Maybe most telling, I never left there thinking, "Gee, I can't wait to come back here."

Exactly right! That annoyed the heck out of me esp since the servers were NEVER around to have their eye caught.

I've been there a few times. Service was always terrible, dishes came out slowly and weren't that great. It had a loyal following, but I just didn't get it.

There's lots better in the area. I was amazed it stayed open.

Wow, people kept telling me to try it, but I never did. The long drive never seemed worth if for anything less than Talula's.
