I am trying to decide between the two for a bday dinner. Which one do you recommend?

As the English say, "The difference is like chalk & cheese".

Different animals. Al Biernet's is a steakhouse. It's a very good steakhouse, perhaps the best in town, but that is what it is. Fearings and Pyle's are chef driven restaurants.

Both are good. I prefer Fearing's. I think the dishes are just more to my taste with a bit more Asian influences. I also prefer Fearing's wine list. But frankly, there are a lot of similarities and both are good.

I prefer Stephan Pyles. I think it's more creative. The Fearings menu is very heavy with too many fried or "brown buttered" things. Stepan Pyles also has a tasting menu, which is always more fun for a special occation dinner.
