St. Louis: clam roll and lobster roll
Is there anyplace in St. Louis that serves a clam roll? My favorite clam rolls were the ones served by Howard Johnson.
And how about lobster rolls in St. Louis. My favorite lobster rolls are the ones served at Mabel's Lobster Claw in Kennebunkport ME, but I don't expect that St. Louis can match those...
Mmmmm, boy, this is a rough one. Off the top of my head, I can think of no one doing either of those. I, too, learned clam rolls from HoJo, one of the first exotic foods this small-town kid ever tried. I think maybe some fried clams flew by me a year or two ago, not in a roll, but definitely the weensy from-a-Sysco-bag kind. Can't remember where. Let me bump this up and see if someone can kick my memory or theirs into a higher gear.
I think Sugarfire had one not too long ago.
It's a hike but Firefly Grill in Effingham has had them from time to time but you would have to call and ask as it is not all the time. Niall Campbell, the chef is from Maine. He has had lobster bakes.
Gulf Shores Restaurant in Creve Cour has a lobster and seafood roll on their menu.
Coastal Bistro in Clayton has a lobster roll.
Demun Oyster Bar in Clayton has a lobster roll.
Cardwell's at Frontenac had a lobster roll on the menu recently so check before you go. Also Bristol's has a lobster roll and if I remember correctly it might be on the bar menu at happy hour.
