Gus's fried chicken opens today 1/6 !

The reviews on this small chain in memphis and other locations are off the charts. I will be forcing my lunchmates to check it out with me.

I ate there for their grand opening today having never experienced a Gus's in Memphis, etc. All I can say is that for a 3 pc chicken dark, slaw, and fries, water and a 20% tip downtown came to just around 11 bucks. It was delicious - arguably the best fried chicken in Austin at this moment. Fries were forgettable and slaw was not sickeningly sweet, but I like more savory slaw. My dining partner enjoyed his mac and cheese, and both of us thought the chicken was juicy, perfectly seasoned, lightly breaded, and perfectly fried.

      1. I went there the other night. The chicken meat was very moist and juicy, even the white meat. My guess is a very good brine. I found the skin to be very spicy but it had too much of whatever provided the spice, to the point it almost had a bitter burnt taste. To be clear it wasn't actually burned but it just produced that flavor, I think it's mostly Tabasco sauce infused in the breading. It was a very odd experience. The sides were totally forgettable. I'd be willing to give them another shot but as of my first visit it was nothing to write home about
