Chobani yogurt at Whole Foods no more

donlan Jan 4, 2014 08:08 AM

I went to Whole Foods today, as I do most weekends, only to find my favourite Chobani yogurt missing from the dairy section. It wasn't just that some flavours were missing, the entire selection of Chobani was gone.

After shopping (sans yogurt purchase), I asked at the customer service desk, only to find that Whole Foods has stopped carrying Chobani altogether. The buyer I spoke with did not know why, but promised to have a manager call me. He also offered to special order me a case of what I wanted (I took him up on his kind offer).

It seems odd to me that Whole Foods would stop carrying arguably the most popular Greek yogurt option available.

This was announced in advance and I'm surprised any employee, much less a "buyer," would know that.

This was all over the food news just before Christmas and there was discussion on CH. Strangely, I can't find a link to it, but here's the story from the WaPo.

I'm a much bigger fan of Wallaby yogurts...lower in sugar than most, organic milk from small pastured farms. Option for lowfat instead of non-fat, which I prefer.

I was away before Christmas, perhaps I missed the news coverage.

I'll have to try some other yogurts, it seems. However, I'll really miss Chobani.

It is still widely available at shaws, stop and shop, hannafords and market basket if those are options for you. Even my local CVS carries the stuff.

You really do 100% of your shopping at WF? Then you can afford to hire someone to make a special trip to Shaw's for you.

                I really like Fage.

Ditto. Fage plain is still my favorite. I remember when Fage was difficult to find. Now, Fage is sold pretty much everywhere.

My yogurt of choice too, plain. I like to add my own fruit.

Exactly. Fruit, vegetable, spices, etc. I also bake with it.
Something about that thin paper on top, cracking open a fresh tub makes me happy.

Part of Wholier Than Thou Foods deal with Stoneyfield Farms' Gary Hirschberg to bring greek style non GMO fed cows yogurt to you.

since, given the choice, i'd pick the non-GMO yogurt over GMO product EVERY time, to me this is a good thing.
less GMO product taking up shelf space at a market at which i do much of my shopping.

ya want GMO, target carries tons of it on practically every shelf, including chobani.

I'm sure target also carries chobani's latest the frankenfood 100cal cups featuring artificial sweetners and added inulin fiber.....(WTF???)

This reminds me of what my younger sis said...oh I thought everything sold at whole food was organic, no?
