Korean Dumpling and Noodle House
Four of us were looking for something open New Years' Day in north York and found ourselves in Korean Dumpling and Noodle House, 6068 Yonge St. Small, 8 to 10 tables, home-style restaurant specializing in handmade noodles and dumplings in soups as well as Korean pancake and a few other dishes. The restaurant was crowded with diners mostly eating soups. We ordered two dumpling with noodle soups and two dumpling only soups. Dumplings were large, 3 to 4 times the normal size, one meat, one very interesting veg combo. Broth was wonderful, silky and noodles were different than any I have tasted in other Korean restaurants-kinky, chewy and very delicious. We shared the pancake which was delicious, lots of what I thought was octopus although it may have been small pinkish squid and very fresh veg.
No one spoke English and we felt as though we had stumbled into someone's kitchen. Accompanying small dishes were kimchi (very very fresh), a simple cabbage one and crunchy daikon with spicy sauce. I believe they have a liquor licence but was only able to obtain a print out from their opening day flyer which was all in Korean. I think they are open until 4 A.M.
A very interesting, surprising find and one to which we will return very soon.
