Last Chance Kitchen 1/1/14 spoilers

Carrie vs. Louis
Tom brings up the broccoli incident again and surprise .... the ingredient they have to feature is broccoli.
Carrie and Louis do a small commercial for the Toyota Corolla and its voice map features and head to Whole Foods to Shop. Carrie gets trout (which I'm not sure how or if she used it in her dish) and Louis gets some sockeye salmon.
Judging from the comments of Louis and the other chefs, they all have a lot of respect for Carrie's skills and didn't expect to see her so soon.
Janine gets a lot of face time, but actually isn't showing a bunch of leg for once.
I realize that at least 3 of the guys in the peanut gallery I can't name, and one I can only name as side show Bob.
Carrie makes a filled pasta with a roasted broccoli filling. When she is using the pasta roller on the kitchenaid mixer she doesn't have it fastened down tight at first and the whole thing takes off rotating. Looks like something I'd do. Her dish is well received.
Louis does Salmon with broccoli three ways.
Tom likes both dishes, really has nothing bad to say about either one. He picks Louis for highlighting the broccoli. Three more wins and Louis is back in the show.

  1. Why are they releasing these episodes earlier than the show episodes they are supposed to be paired with? Aren't they basically spoiling the main show by showing who was most recently eliminated?

I watch both these and the main episodes on-demand, and the LCK always shows up before the main episode. Irritating.

    2. 2014, not 2013 LOL

How long do we all take to remember what year it is? Although I don't write too many checks anymore :)

I just asked the Mods to make the change.

And when I was at work this morning (before leaving because of the snow), every time I was inputting bills that were dated in December, I usually just have to type the month and day, such as 12/23. The accounting system would say "This bill is more than 30 days in the future. Are you sure you want to do that?" The system autofills the year, so I was forced to remember the 2013 part. ;-)

          1. re: coney with everything

I had to sign and date 508 documents on Thursday. I think I've got it in my noggin now.

          2. Carrie also got the eggs to make pasta, which I think is the way she went. I guess the trout went unused.

Sideshow Bob is getting way too much audio time. And Sara seemed very stilted in the gallery when speaking with Tom C.

I really like Louis. I would like to see him back in the main competition....but I think it's going to be a lot harder as the next few cheftestants are eliminated from the TC Kitchen.

I'm so hoping Louis gets back in . . . Have I mentioned I love his smile?

              1. re: gaffk

You might have done so once or twice, gaffk. ;-)

              2. re: LindaWhit

Yes, he does seem to be coming into his own in LCK. IF he makes it thru the next few rounds he will be a force to be reckoned with when he re-enters.

              3. It was interesting Carrie bought a piece of trout and never used it...

                1. I have an idea for a new Top Chef program. "Behind the Scenes of LCK". It could be an internet/on-demand show if they don't want it on Bravo. We never did get to know the contestants who were PPYKAG early on.

                  1. Finally watched this episode. I vaguely remember a Toyota, a Whole Foods, two very tasty looking dishes that the chefs cooked and one certain blond chef getting lots of, um, face, yeah, that's it face, time in the former chef cheering section.

Are they grooming her for something? It seemed to me she got an inordinate amount of face time yet again.

                      1. re: Firegoat

Huh, they might be. She and former TC Jeff McInnis are opening a place in NYC right about now.

Is it called "Where the beautiful people eat"?

                          1. re: LurkerDan

I believe it's called Root and Bone. So kind of the same line of thinking.

                            1. re: ennuisans

That didn't make me think of eating. At least not in the traditional sense.

                              1. re: mariacarmen

mc, you're terrible. Funny, but terrible.

                                1. re: JAB

hah - thanks, i'll take that as a compliment!

                                  1. re: mariacarmen

I'm glad that you did as that's how it was meant.

                                2. re: mariacarmen

Well, they could rename LCK "Southern Exposure". Or the NYC place "Northern Exposure."

                          2. re: bobbert

Didn't notice it this episode. Wasn't it leg time last episode?

                            1. re: JAB

Yes, last time it was leg time. This time it wasn't really "face" time but they are working their way up to her face.

                              1. re: bobbert

I suspect it will be a long slow trip.

                                  1. re: bobbert

I feel bad for a lot of the other contestants who have been in the peanut gallery longer and aren't getting any face time.

                                    1. re: Firegoat

Yeah, it was pretty bad. There was at least one instant where one of the other chefs was talking but the camera was on her.
