Latest CH Search Engine Failure

So are we back to square one for 2014 when it comes to the issues with our in-house search engine?

This was the result I just ran for all years on the LA board for n/naka - an often mentioned and highly rated restaurant here in Los Angeles:

And below we see the results of a Google search for the same name. I also ran a search on N/naka on the CH search engine and got the same results as above (zero results).

However, when I run a search on "naka" (without the quote marks) we find results as follows:

  1. I was just on the Great Plains board starting to research a summer trip. I typed St. Louis in the search box and nothing but ads appeared....The same search a few days ago brought up pages of past threads.

I had an idea that just proved out. Because my search for the restaurant by name "n/naka" returned no results, but using "naka" did I just tried the search term "louis" on the Great Plains board and low and behold we find:

Thanks...never occurred to me to omit the "St." Perhaps the saints have been misbehaving lately?

      2. As noted here, the search engine is having problems recognizing a slash "/" and other punctuation marks.

Aren't you going to give yourself a lecture on lazy chowhounds who expect the search engine to work and want to be spoonfed results? [g,d,r]

If I hadn't worked out my WAP I would probably have had to give myself 30 lashes with an al dente noodle. But I have to at least be mildly pleased with my "louis" epiphany and its results. Dog helps those who help-hound themselves...(g)

        2. I think it's cute that you still try to use it. ;-)

          1. As has been noted, there are still issues with searches that contain punctuation. We're working on some possible solutions to that, though, and I'll let you know when it's fixed.

In the meantime, for this particular search, I actually find our search tool quite useful. If you search for the word "naka" and then limit the search to the Los Angeles Board, and to threads updated in the past year, you'll quickly find the most relevant and useful threads about that restaurant. Here's my search results, which is a slight modification to Servorg's:
