      Overrated: Mission Chinese
      Underrated: Costata

Tho I would argue its not fair (for me included) to call something overrated after one visit. And if its multiple visits, than why keep coming back

      Overrated: Daniel

      Underrated: Congee Village

        Overratted - Keens
Underratted - Budakhan - the scene is brutal but if you concentrate on the food exclusively they are pushing out some very good dishes.

          Underrated: Caviar Russe, Picholine, Juni

you could say this post is the topic of 75% of the specific questions on this board...under/over-rated according to CHers?...Zagats?...critics?...

when one feels a place is under/over-rated, one is reacting to a base of people who like/dislike it...without making clear who that base is, the question (and the answer) is meaningless...

I have to agree with Simon. There is no basis for the ratings . Are we underrating and overrating based on CH'ers ratings, zagat, yelp, michelin etc Or just the general hype or lack of hype.
I understand to a degree what the OP wants, but I'll just use my OR/UR based on CH'ers raves and unraves and lack of hype or too much hype

Completely agree on Otto. Generic and overratted

Where can you get a better plate of pasta for $10? The prices at Otto are cheaper than a diner.

And, alas, at least to me, the food is of not much better quality than a diner.

Coasts, have you tried Mission Cantina? The food even better than Empellon Taqueria which I also like a lot.

Not yet, but I'm anxious to. Mission Chinese is a favorite of mine, despite it appearing here as overrated.

underrated: Hearth.. particularly their pasta dishes are amazing

overrated: Per Se.. used to be perfect but recently not as good.

                              1. ellenost Jan 2, 2014 01:36 PM

FYI, for those of us who consider Picholine underrated, take a look at their online menu--it looks fantastic (especially the 8 course tasting menu). Too bad it's not near my apartment otherwise I would have dinner there tonight! Definitely need to plan another visit soon!
