Wako Honey Pig in Buena Park - Report

For my last meal on this LA trip, I ate a quick dinner at Wako Honey Pig in Buena Park. I thought it was excellent. I was headed to Long Beach airport after the meal, and the staff were helpful in making things go quickly, so we were in and out in about 45 minutes.

I had never had Korean BBQ like this before, and I really liked it. The grills are prepped before sitting down w/ kimchi and spicy bean sprouts. Also some scallions. Each person has a sesame dipping sauce and some sheets of rice noodle. The grill slopes upward, so when we cooked the meat (pork and beef) on the top of the grill, the juices ran down. We grilled meat and wrapped it in the rice noodles...I learned from my friend that this tradition started in LA, and has since been adopted in Korea as well.

After the meat was done, we had some pieces of egg pancake, and then after that they brought out some rice. They chopped up the remaining kimchi into the rice, and then put the rice on the grill to crisp it up. We ladled some teaspoons of meat fat from the pan onto the rice as it fried. The fried rice was a great end to the meal.

In case I haven't mentioned it, I really like the food in LA.
