Le Bon Ton Roule, RIP?

Drove by this afternoon to see that not only is LBTR gone, it's *already* been recast as a Mexi joint, El Norte or something.

Anyone know the story of what happened and when?

  1. That's just a damned shame.

    1. That space seems to be a black hole, sucking in one restaurant after another. Not sure why--most of them have been good, they have parking (which so many in the area don't), they're on a high-traffic street... It's too bad.

      1. I noticed it about 3 weeks ago. No idea what happened. Must be a tough place. There have been at least 4 businesses there in the last 5 years. Location, location, location?

          Hi, BallardFoodie:

I dunno about location. My guess is that the layout is off-putting.

        2. The times that I visited there were a fair number of patrons. However I once arranged to meet a friend there for lunch on a weekday, and we arrived to find the place closed. They had discontinued their lunch service but had failed to note the change in their hours of operation on their website.

I remember wondering at that time if the lack of a brisk lunch trade in that neighborhood was perhaps a bad indicator of their ability to turn a profit.

          They will be missed.

Thanks for sharing that info, which provided big clarification.

If anyone has tried their Mexican incarnation, I'd love to hear your impressions....

At least the crawfish mac and cheese lives on. That was a good dish.

Looks like the successor Mexi place is now OOB, too. Wassupwidat?

Yikes, that certainly went down quickly.

I guess perhaps it is not an easy location. They were competing with the heart of the Ballard restaurant scene, but they were not ~in~ the heart of the Ballard restaurant scene and therefore they are more difficult to know about.

And I remember thinking that the menu items were awfully inexpensive when they were in the Mexican incarnation (thus they'd need a lot of business coming through the restaurant to turn a profit).

I think that the business may have moved into Ballard. I believe the place was part of the El Borracho family, which recently opened a place near Leary and Market.

                              Hi, BF:

Maybe. According to this article, the plan was to have a this one in Frellard, another in Pike Place Market, and a third one in Ballard proper. http://www.seattlemet.com/eat-and-dri...

                    2. Is there any information here about the future of the suck-a-brew on Fremont?

                      1. Sad LBTR is a thing of the past. Hate to see another unique Seattle resto disappear.
