Early breakfast north of Boston?

Tante Dec 28, 2013 05:13 PM

Dropping off family at the airport at about 5AM tomorrow, and will be heading back to NH along 93N to Woburn,/128S to Burlington/3N to Nashua. Any suggestions for a good breakfast place that'll be open along that route? We'd be fine with traditional American breakfast/diner fare (eggs, pancakes, etc.). Thanks in advance.

Get off 3N at Treble Cove Rd. and head east into Billerica. The road will veer left at an island. Keep to the right - that will be Bridge St and meets rt. 3A at McDonald's. Turn right onto 3A. Just ahead on your left will be a strip mall with Bellybusters, a breakfast-lunch place that fits the bill. If they are crowded or closed, across the street is Stelio's, known for large portions of diner fare. It's perhaps 3 miles off the highway.

ETA: Both open at 7 on Sundays.

This suggestion is a little out of your way but I think you are going to have some trouble finding a restaurant open early enough for you on a Sunday. Brother's Deli in Wakefield opens at 5 AM on Sundays. Instead of going south on 128, head north for two quick exits. Take exit 39 and bear right to turn onto North Ave (headed south). Turn left on Chestnut St, then right on Main. Brothers is on Main St.

Don't forget that the callahan is closed as of Friday night.

coming out of logan, if you find yourself on 95 north coming home try the Agawam Diner in Rowley, opens at 5:00 am

The Callahan leads from Boston to Logan. The Sumner Tunnel is from Logan to Boston, and will not be closed for repair until the Callahan work is finished in the spring.

The Club Diner in Lowell is open at 5am. It's on Dutton St, near Merrimack and the Hess Station.

I think it gets a strange crowd, people finishing the night at 5am, and some starting the day at 5 am.

If you could possibly wait or be delayed until 6:30, Vic's Waffle House in Tewksbury would be the place to go.

If you wanted to go to Vic's, take 93 north to 495 south, to 38 south. It's a little way down on your left - freestanding, so you won't miss it.

Cappa's Trackside in Melrose opens at 5:30 AM. According to Google, it's an 8 minute detour from I-93 exit 33 (6 minutes for the trip from Cappa's back to I-93 at exit 35). They serve a good breakfast. I'd personally choose this over my earlier Brother's recommendation.

Ditto, Trackside is definitely worth a detour.

It may not be open early enough for your purposes (it opens at 7) but the Dream Diner in Tyngsboro is excellent. I've generally had omelets or benedicts when I've gone, and never been disappointed.

The last time this came up, the poster ended up at Buddy's Diner in Somerville, but they don't open until 7am. Probably too late for your needs.

The Swanton Street Diner in Winchester opens at 07:00. Winchester is right off Rte 93 and the Swanton Street Diner is about 10 minutes from the highway. They do very good breakfasts.

Breakfast hours have come and gone and hopefully the flight took off on schedule and you are safely back at home in NH.
Did you find a breakfast place open early enough?

Thanks to everyone for the great suggestions! We ended up making such good time that we were back in NH by 6AM. And at that point, we all were too tired to eat and just went back to bed, seeing as we'd been up since 2:45.
I will definitely make a point of checking out some of these places the next time I'm in the area. And thanks again!
