We're going to Vancouver BC in a few days and always on the lookout for good places.
Where do you like to go? For whatever food you crave.
(They'll probably move this post somewhere else so hurry, we have the weekend to submit favorites.)
For us, Long Liners Seafood in Granville St Mkt. Chambar for mussels. The Fairmont for a quiet drink. Joe Fortes for the bar scene. Abduls for shwarma.
So many places I'd like to try. I'd like to find a jazz club and the top picks for Chinese BBQ buns.

Dinesty (for Chinese 'xiao long bao (XLB)/soupy buns'): Vanc downtown & Richmond

I'll trot out my usual list:
L'abbatoir for higher end French-influenced modern food
Alvin Garden (Hunan, pork heart!)
Anatolia's Gate (Burnaby, Turkish, awesome baked lavash and cheese pides)
Kirin Citysquare, Dynasty (higher end dimsum)
Good Choice (value dimsum, certain items are very good, avoid steamed dumplings)
Pinpin (Filipino, just the sisig and the crispy pata)
Zakkushi (for Japanese things on sticks)
Argo Cafe (if they have the duck confit on the menu posted at 11 am each weekday, $12.50!)
a #2 or #7 banh mi from Ba Le on Kingsway
Hai Phong for Vietnamese hot pots, tamarind crab, bun, ban xheo, ban khot, chicken wings
Kalvin's (Sichuan/Taiwanese mashup, resos mandatory, get the fish with yellow chives)
Bee Kim Heng (this is a store that sells very good Singapore-style beef and pork jerky on Fraser)
Green Lemon Grass (Vietnamese $5 breaky dishes before 11 am, bot chien is great)
My Chau (Vietnamese chicken pho, really excellent, closes early, no Sundays)
Lin's (only get the XLB and maybe the rice hot pot, but get the XLB!)
Hokkaido Ramen Santouka (a Japanese chain, yes, but they have toroniku, which you must have before you die)
Miko Sushi (expensive but topnotch old school sushi place, casual, only order a la carte)
La Buca (muscular Italian food, reservations mandatory), Sweet Obsessions (just for the lemon dacquoise dessert), Ajisai (somewhat pricey, go early re no resos and sit at the bar)
Tokyo Thyme (casual sushi, traditional ingredients used in modern ways, avoid cooked food)
HK BBQ Masters (Richmond, the best Chinese BBQ I've tried yet, you can dine in on a very limited menu or take it to go, stick with the bbq or roasted pork/ribs, ask for "half/half" chasiu which will avoid you getting the less prized lean stuff)
Richmond Public Market/President's Plaza/Lansdowne etc (Asian food courts, do a day-time tour and pick the top items, need a car and extra bellies for this)
Red Wagon (for the pork belly and the pulled pork pancakes if you're feeling naughty, avoid on weekends, insane lines, go at or before opening even on weekdays)
Cadeaux Bakery (seasonal passion fruit meringue tartlet, sundaes)
Big Lou's for the porchetta sandwich (split one for $9.50)
Big Chef (mid-range Canto in Richmond, Auntie Song's fish soup and Chinese "chawan mushi" are standouts)
coffee: Matchstick (good baking here too, especially the double baked almond croissants), Revolver, Elysian (I like the Broadway location best), Kafka's, maybe the newish 49th Parallel flagship on 4th
Regarding jazz clubs (which we have all too few of).
The Cellar is our main jazz venue - food is fair though pricey for what it is but the music is the main draw (note - closing in early 2014 - future home TBA). http://www.cellarjazz.com/
Pat's pub has jazz (with no cover) Saturday afternoons from 3 til 7. A handful of microbrews on tap (incl a house brew) and acceptable pub food http://www.patspub.ca/events/
Zakkushi. Fun. Sapporo by the liter for $10. Mystery meat on a stick. The real standout? The salad with raw salmon, avocado and their secret sauce.
Joe Fortes. Fun. Solid every time we go there. Bit of a splurge $.
Dinesty on Robson. Interesting that the decor was so modern. Had the requisite XLB. Tasty and porky, delish.
New Town Bakery Chinatown. Steamed BBQ pork bun. Divine.
Visited Chinatown about 9:00 Saturday morning as things were just setting up. I'd love to have a guide explaining what all those dried things in the markets are used for. The most mysterious item was a dried lizard, flayed open and tied to a stick. 2 for $6.99. Now if I just had a recipe!
Yakinikuya on Jervis. Real Fun. Not just yakiniku but had a great seafood pancake as well. Love the Japanese Korean mix.

Beaucoup. Got a croissant. It was misshapen. Asked what happened. They shrugged with a bit of an attitude, 'do you want it or not?' Love/Hate this place. Tip...if you go and score a table, be ready to have a butt in your face from the standing crowd. (The croissant was good but I'd guess there are better in Vancouver.) The cinnamon pastry was fine with great cin flavor. I asked about it and the only secret they gave was 'butter from New Zealand.'
Reviewing the eats...number 1 would have to be the steamed BBQ pork bun from New Town Bakery. Next time I'll try the balut. (Anyone a fan?)
Presumably they use it for the higher fat content: 84% vs 80% of nearly all Canadian butters. This would make a difference to croissant quality. Thomas Haas uses it too. Stirling in Ontario is higher fat but not avail locally? (I think someone reported a Costco sighting but I've never seen it there).
