Looking for candied pumpkin in NYC/North NJ

Anyone...? I had it at Ciya Sofrasi in Istanbul but it was at the end of a very long, very large and very delicious meal, and although it was easily the most incredible thing I have ever put in my mouth, I barely had room to eat one small piece. I have been craving it ceaselessly ever since.

  1. I think I might have a lead for you. Is the stuff you're looking for partially crystalized, preserved in a very sweet syrup, cut into chunks? If so there is a jarred version.

      That is basically it. The stuff I had was in slices but it had obviously been preserved in syrup. I'll take anything at this point.

        I'll check the jar when I return from the holidays so you'll have a brand, and maybe the distributors name. I picked it up a year ago from Third Avenue Cheese Shop, shelved with the jams but it's not one of the items they stock routinely, and you never know what you're going to get there.

          Do you mean East Village Cheese? I love that place. We used to live a few blocks away. So fantastic. Yes, thank you! I'm desperate to find it.

            Yes, that's what I meant. Great that you're familiar with it, so you know it's hit or miss what they stock.

    2. De Mi Camp is the brand.
      Zapallos En Almibar is the name, followed the English description of "Pumpin in syrup".
      It's imported from Argentina by Las Foods.

      My guess is this is a different product, but on the off chance it's similar enough, I hope you track it down.
