Caracol (Hugo's owned new restaurant) last night
off Post Oak.. GF and I sat at the small bar in front of the wood fired oven.. To my surprise, Hugo was assisting behind the food bar.. Great guy,, sincere, passionate, humble,, does his research and the wait staff reflects the customer service philosophy of the owner.. Please the customer with great food and service.
Had the house rita and a glass of sav blanc to start along with a couple of apps, fresh oysters and cerviche.. wonderful start of the eve... entrée course inc taquitos and redish w tomatillo sauce.. 10 on a 10 scale! Sides incl skewerd grilled bruss sprouts and tamale Azteca. Dessert was a round frozen house made chocolate ball that is opened with the use of a mallet. Inside,, creamy coconut custard scooped out with the broken pieces of choc.. Great night, great food, great service. Will return
Good to hear. I saw somewhere that they lost their chef almost immediately after opening and that sounded dire. I need to overcome my phobia of the neighborhood and give it a try. It's the traffic, ugh.
Stopped in for lunch recently after reading they have the padron peppers I have been seeking for nigh on a year now and wasn't disappointed, flashed to lunching on the beach in Barcelona. We ordered the fish and crab salad, both were fresh and pretty. Service was great. Valet was handy especially since it was raining and they covered me with an umbrella until I was in the car. Gotta love that. I'd like to go back for dinner, or better yet, a small plate fest like you enjoyed at the bar.
DH and I went recently and enjoyed it very much. House rita: best ever. Excellent blue crab soup and grilled prawns. Loved Hugo's wonderful hot chocolate with a shot of fine sherry added!
