Platform 7 coffee house, Hastings and Nanaimo, Vancouver -- any reports?

Thanks to a mention on Sherman's Food Adventures, I've just become aware of this place. It looks rather promising, though I'm not a huge Stumptown fan. Any Hounds sampled their wares, coffee or otherwise?

  1. had double helpings of the salted choco chip cookies, even gluten-free IIRC. Also had the cappuccino, which was ok. The faux train station decor was different.

Thanks, els. Was hoping for more in the coffee department, alas. May swing by anyway, if only to check out the Victoria train station motif and grab one of those cookies.

After a disappointing lunch at Tacofina Commissary, we drowned our sorrows at Platform 7. Friendly yet self-effacing and expert service, delicious GF double choc expresso cookie (my DC was suspicious it might have gluten, it was that good), really solid coffee. Stumptown performed well in a cortado and a Chemex (Ethiopian). Very nice touch to prewarm the glass for my pourover. Both beverages had lots of body and oomph while still retaining the smoothness I covet in coffee.

As for the decor, some might find it twee but I thought it was a relief from the sterile, designer places that seem to be a trend for cafes, at least the ones I've been frequenting. I could see hanging out here for a bit, either in a booth or one of the bright, street-facing tables at the front. I'll be returning for sure.
