Needing NOLA Area Recommendations
My wife and I are planning a trip to New Orleans. We have not been there in sometime, and plan to drive over to spend a few days. We are looking for recommendations. I have read many of the NO threads on the site, and have found some good advise.
But what we would really like to find are the out of the way places. The places that the locals go to for good everyday food. The places can even be a little bit outside of the city. We are not really that interested in the trendy or touristy restaurants. We will probably hit a couple of previously recommended spots in the Garden District, and one or two in the Quarter. But my wife is not very fond of the Quarter. The rest of our stay we would like to enjoy eating experience in the rest of the city. Any advise or help would be greatly appreciated. Oh, and we might, or might not, be taking our 4 yr old daughter.
You can do a search for threads that have covered food in Kenner and food in Metairie.
There are mentions of places up Canal Street and on Magazine Street in many threads.
If you back out the top 10-20 restaurants (with half of those maybe in the FQ and CBD) I'd put New Orleans up against most any city in the quality of the Mom n Pop second tier restaurants.
They will be the ordinary seafood, po-boy, Italian, Vietnamese and Hispanic places.
