Pork Blood in the Triangle?

I am cooking a rather complex recipe from Andy Ricker's Pok Pok cook book and I need pork blood. is this available in any of the ethnic markets locally such as Li Ming's? I would ask the farmer I buy from at the Carrboro Farmer's Market, but I'm pretty sure she already thinks I'm a total nut job, when I asked her for sweetbreads (actually, I think she'll point me to the halal processing plant in Pittsboro). I asked at the Thai market in Carrboro and they said, "No". So, I ask you, the Chowish collective, where's the blood?

    1. I don't know the answer to your question, but I wonder if Rose's Meat Market and Sweet Shop in Durham might be able to order some for you? It might also be worth contacting the folks at Firsthand Foods.

      1. No chance you will find pork blood at a halal or kosher facility.

Perhaps Tom Inscoe on South Alston Ave in Durham can help you 919-544-1250. Years ago I had a friend who developed an award winning stir fried pork liver recipe. He got his pork liver from Tom Inscoe.

I sort of chuckled at the halal part as well. Although I will admit it almost slipped by me. LoL

I would have paid good money to watch Tom show up there and matter-of-factly ask for some pig's blood and see the expressions on their faces. I'm grinning just thinking about it!

Sorry, Tom ,just having some fun.

hehe I had a friend enter a Jewish deli in new york and ask for a corned beef sandwich and a glass of milk, they threw her out & it wasn't even a kosher deli. tough crowd;-)

My sis & her family were in New York one Thanksgiving. My BIL & nephew went into one of the big delis to get corned beef & pastrami, but my sis didn't want that. Instead she poked into a pizza place right by the deli. She got her slice and went to join the boys since they were still waiting on their sandwiches.

She walked into the deli with her peperoni pizza. People started yelling at her and made her go back out on the street.

She cried on the sidewalk. LoL

        2. I'd give Cliff a call, especially since you're in Chapel Hill.

Li Ming had frozen fresh pork blood and cooked, blood cake.

Yeah the blood cake (black pudding) is made of blood and rice.

I don't have the courage to eat those things but glad you found them locally.
