Yogurt Powder substitution?
I am making something called "Vanilla Bean Yogurt Panna Cotta" which I had for breakfast at a Hyatt resort. It is pretty decadent for breakfast and includes milk, cream sugar, gelatin, vanilla bean and a tablespoon of "yogurt powder", which I am having a hard time finding in a grocery store. I tried a health food store but they only have yogurt starter. I think the purpose of it is to add a little tang, so I'm wondering if anyone can think of a substitution if I can't get my hands on any before this weekend. Thanks!
I would just add a spoonful of plain yogurt. If it seems like it will throw off the consistency, maybe subtract a spoonful of the milk or cream. I can't imagine it will make a huge difference.
I wonder if powdered buttermilk would be an acceptable substitution? Any grocery store will have buttermilk powder on the baking aisle.
