Good Bar for a Large Group of People

Hello All, I'm new to this board and I need some suggestions for places to drink for this Saturday...the backstory is this is going to be a special occasion as I'm proposing to my GF on Saturday...I have dinner reservations at La Famiglia at 5:30 for our immediate families but some other friends/family members will be meeting us for drinks afterward.

I'm pretty familiar with the city, but without reservations I'm trying to brainstorm some good options where we can get drinks as a group without being crammed into tight corners, which I fear might be the case given it will be Saturday evening...the size of our group is not set in stone but I'm thinkin it will end up being 15-20 people in total. All suggestions are welcome, thanks!!

  1. What part of the city do you want to be in?

I'm pretty open to most spots in Center City proper...I would prefer Center City East but if there are some good options west of Broad that won't be a problem

So for example Frankford Hall in Fishtown would not be a good choice?

How about Bar Ly at 11 and Arch.

        Bru at 13 and Chestnut.

        Brauhaus Schmitz on South Street

On the High end the lobby bar at the Ritz Carlton the 10 arts lounge would be a pretty location.

Thanks for the suggestions! Frankford Hall is one place that I've really wanted to get to, unfortunately with uncles/aunts/grandparents coming into the city (likely by train) we are looking for areas we can walk to from Suburban/Market East.

    2. National Mechanics, despite it's Old City location, is actually a really decent place. I've been there on numerous occasions and even for a wedding after party.

I immediately though of National Mechanics. Never been there on a Saturday night, but it was a favorite for after-work large groups.

To be fair, it's been several years, but last time I was there on a Saturday night it was a mob-scene dance party. In my experience, the Saturday night vibe was VERY different from a weeknight one.

You're right, National Mechanics is nuts on the weekends.

The OP's big day has come and gone, but I would have suggested trying Victoria Freehouse or Il Bar at Ristorante Panorama. Both are just a few steps along Front Street from La Famiglia.

      2. You might be able to reserve the upstairs at Strangelove's on 12th St.

        1. I immediately thought Strangelove's when i read this.
