Replying to a thread more than once

melpy Dec 17, 2013 06:26 AM

I have found on three of my devices, that I am no longer able to reply more than once to a thread without hitting the refresh button. Once I refresh all the posts will go grey and I prefer not to sift through all the dates to figure out which ones to re-opn. Basically the Reply button is only there once. I can reply once and then when I type a reply to another post in that thread in the same reading session, I can type the whole thing but then there is no reply button to submit.

On the PCs (using both Internet Explorer and Firefox) this isn't as much of a hassle if I open a word document and copy and paste and refresh but on the iphone 4 (old operating system) it basically is a waste of time.

Apologies for the error, I suspect I know what's causing this. We'll look into it.

Still happening (and had been for the last couple of months or so) that I am coming to the Site Talk board just to check! It is increasingly annoying and removes some of the joy of leisurely reading through a thread and responding to posts as I come across them.

I hope there is a fix soon and thanks. I am on Firefox 18.0.1 and my current workaround is to "duplicate tab" and relocate the post that I wish to respond to. Then paste my response from the non-working page (with reply button missing) to the duplicated page. The relocating gets tedious when the thread gets long, obviously.

Also, if I remember correctly, if I reload the page (instead of duplicating), the Reply button appears but my response would be a child of the original post and not of the post I wanted to respond to.

Yes, that sounds right to me. I have to go back to the main board page and go to the topic again.

Thanks for all the reports on this thread. Unfortunately, we've never been able to reproduce the issue on our end, which makes it extremely difficult for us to pinpoint the cause. We're continuing to look into it.

Seems bizarre to me that you can't reproduce it. I've encountered it in several browsers on both Windows and Mac.

Looks like this is caused by an add-on, at least in Firefox. In safe mode the problem goes away.

I was having a similar problem a month or 2 ago, but chalked it up to a bad/slow connection, it does seem to be gone now (mine was a post wouldn't register and I doubleplusposted a few times - mods deleted the excess eventually)

And now this issue on Chrome. Perhaps go back to Netscape?
