Threads displaying all crunched up

I'm sure there's a technical term for this, but I don't know it. Here's what it looks like:

    1. I've caught this bug too.

        1. Ah thank goodness. I had a couple of glasses of cab with dinner and figured it was just a me-problem lol.

          (Running Firefox on a laptop.)

          1. This is what the display looks like for me too. And there are other issues with CH today:
            1. the reply box automatically opens when you open a thread. before today the reply box opened only when clicking "reply", which I much prefer. Why force the reader to scroll past white space when they don't need to?
            2. the icons in the OP are stacked vertically today; yesterday if they were included in an original post (can't say I noticed) they most definitely weren't displayed stacked in a vertical column. (icons = avatar, thumbs up icon, facebook like, comment box with a number in it, and tweet button)

+1 for me with these same issues.

              1. re: Gio

And... the Recommend button does not work, just keeps rotating.

                1. re: Gio

Hmm - I'm not having problems with the Recommend button (yet).

              1. In some cases, I'm experiencing a crunched up comment box while typing a comment. It's hard to read what I've written before hitting the Reply button so I'm using directional keys to roam around the sentences.

                1. Thanks for putting this in words I understand. Mine is all crunched up too.

                    1. So, Tech Squad -

Is this a site problem or is it our computers?

I use Fire fox too in case that matters.

                      1. So.. I'm surprised no one from The Team has addressed this problem some of us are having. All Day Long. On each page I get lots of white space, two or three lines of each reply on the already read posts, interminable revolving response arrows, stacked share icons leading to more white space, ad nauseam.

                        What's going on over there?

                        1. Thanks for the reports. We're investigating.

It will be good when the new "rear end collision" look is cleared up...

                          2. I just tried to reply with a lengthy post to the seven feast thread but couldn't scroll back up in reply box to recheck what I wrote.

I know this is a free website so I'm not complaining. Just letting you know.

                            Same problem with this post.

                            1. I'm having the same issues and some threads don't show the user's icon either. I was just on the WFD thread and no icons show, but they do show on this thread.

                              1. We think we've fixed the problems with the alignment of collapsed posts. Let us know if you continue to have issues.

Seems to be resolved for me. Thanks!

                                      1. re: DeborahL

The pleats are gone - yay. And...not to be a pain, but the stacked icons & the always-open reply box (mentioned upthread by janniecooks) are still around. Bug? Feature? Repair in progress?

                                        1. re: small h

small h and Gio: I wonder if what you're seeing is related to your operating system, because we can't duplicate it on our end. I think you're both on Windows Vista? Are you seeing this issue in any browsers other than Firefox? If not, your best option might be to switch browsers. We're only able to support the two most recent versions of operating systems and browsers, and unfortunately Vista is no longer supported.

                                            <I think you're both on Windows Vista?>
Yes! I'm one of the few, the proud, the too-lazy-to-upgrade.

<Are you seeing this issue in any browsers other than Firefox?>
No! But I like Firefox, so I'll just deal. Maybe an update to Firefox will fix it at some point.

                                            1. re: small h

Thanks for letting us know the answers to those questions, it's very helpful.

                                              1. re: DeborahL

My answer is the same as "small h".

                                            2. re: DeborahL

                                              >> We're only able to support the two most recent versions of operating systems and browsers, and unfortunately Vista is no longer supported.

Reminding people of this choice does not help you win any fans, DeborahL.

By this logic, when Windows 7 was released, you'd have abandoned support for the gigantic user base of XP users who never migrated to the quirky Vista OS. Why would Chow choose to dump support for a gigantic user base (XP) for a tiny one (Vista) that never really caught on?

Carrying this forward, many people are confused and disappointed by Windows 8 and do not plan on upgrading any time soon (I'm in that batch).

Chowhound is a website-- words on a page-- not the latest Grand Theft Auto or Elder Scrolls mega game. That's the thing that's so frustrating when I read your responses. Insisting that users upgrade to simply read a website is a ballsy move, DeborahL and not one that you should be bandying about as insensitively and as frquently as you do.

                                              Mr Taster

                                        2. Looks fine to me, except "but the stacked icons & the always-open reply box (mentioned upthread by janniecooks) are still around."

                                          1. there remains a a small amount of lines

                                            1. Can't expand collapsed posts in order to read them , tech squad.....I am on an iPad. When will this e fixed? It oes not expand when you hit plus sign.

I am not seeing this on my iPad at all. How long have you been seeing it? Is everything up to date on your iPad (iOS and Safari)?
