  1. Patel Brothers in Jackson Heights sells both white and yellow tumeric root.

    1. I don't know if it's in season right now, but the Apna Bazaar in Jackson Heights (on 37th Ave near 72nd St.) invariably has it when it is. Patel Bros often has it, but not always. Sometimes you see it at smaller stores, but less often. I don't remember specifically seeing frozen roots in Jackson Heights, but they probably have them as well. (The whole roots freeze quite well.)

Also, it's been quite a while since I was in that area, but the small store on the corner of Lexington Ave and E 29th St in Manhattan used to have the frozen roots at a decent price. Kalustyan's may have them, too, fresh or frozen, but I'd expect their price to be quite high compared to the others.

ETA: I've also seen frozen roots in Chinatown, but somewhat randomly. Vietnamese, Thai and Malaysian groceries are your best bets. The relatively large, Vietnamese Tan Tin Hung on the Bowery below Grand St would probably be my first try. That or the small Thai "Bangkok Center" on Mosco St. just off the park if that part of town were more convenient.

      1. saw some at the Whole Foods on Houston a few days ago

        1. I saw it in the produce section of Eataly yesterday.
