kosher italian cheeses?

Has anyone found kosher reggiano parmigiano cheese from Italy lately?

  1. I have seen kosher cheese at Zabar's in the self serve case. They definitely had kosher Parmesan.

The question was about parmigiano reggiano, which is the authentic Italian product, not parmesan, which is made elsewhere.

As far as I know there are no Kosher sources for parmigiano reggiano but I believe you can find Kosher grana padano.

Here's an article reporting the demise of Kosher parmigiano reggiano. Apparently the only cheesemaker that was still producing it sold out a few years ago and the buyer didn't bother with Kosher runs.

        Dear ferret,
Thanks for your link to that Forward article, which I'd read back then. I had actually e-mailed the rabbi in Milan who gave the hechsher for the kosher parmigiano, and the reply stated that there was a problem obtaining kosher rennet, and there wouldn't be a kosher run for at least a year. Since more time than that has passed, I was hoping someone had again spotted the real reggiano parmigiano again.
I'll try e-mailing again, and until then, I'll get myself some grana padano-not such a bad second option.

We have another brand of Grana Padano here in London--Agriform. It's very good.
