"When looking for a place to dine out, why not snag a spot at the hottest place in town? Our Top 100 Hot Spot Restaurant list highlights hip (new) restaurants, celebrity chefs and avant-garde restaurateurs."

Just because a restaurant is "hot" doesn't mean it's any good. This reads more like a list of places to go to be seen eating the trendiest food.

Exactly. I thought this was Chowhound, not a 'foodie' site. I look for untrendy holes in the wall type places that most people wouldn't bother with, but serve out of this world food.

Part of the reason only upscale trendy eateries made the list is that Opentable charges the restaurant $1 per diner to use their service. Restaurants below a certain price point, particularly ones running on razor thin margins, just refuse to use Opentable. So right there you've weeded out a lot of the untrendy holes-in-the-wall.
