New Mexico - De Smet Dairy, Raw, 100% Grass-fed, Organic Milk

Guess what? We can now get organic, raw (unpasteurized, non-homogenized) milk in Albuquerque without having to join a cow-share program. De Smet Dairy milk is from entirely free grazing cows who are 100% grass fed all year round. While raw milk sale is still illegal in Bernalillo and, I think, Santa Fe Counties, their point of sale is in Valencia County, with deliveries made available to Albuquerque via Skarsgard Farms. Not sure how Santa Fe deliveries work or if they've got that up and running yet. If interested, it's best to contact the dairy directly.

  1. Wow, ninrn! This is great news--thanks for posting. I'll share with all my food friends on my local FB page.

It will be very interesting to see how this goes here in NM.

Even though the De Smets themselves posted on FB that home deliveries in Abq are possible, today, the NM Alliance for Raw Milk posted that some people have called to say they could only arrange for Valencia pick-up. Not sure what's going on. Hope the FDA isn't already spending tax dollars to squash this small farm's endeavor.

Aha, good to know, ninrn. I've had a couple of people ask me about the post already.

This will be an interesting story to follow. The raw milk people are pretty brave. Look what happened to that fellow in Wisconsin recently.

I think I'll set up a google alert to keep track for a while.
