NEW: Yokohama Iekei Ramen in Union City

Tried out Yokohama Iekei Ramen because read on Yelp & it's only 5 min from my house.

B. got the Takoyaki $4.9 for 5 pcs. It's the round balls that are grilled filled with octopus. Pretty good.

I picked Classic Iekei Ramen $8.90 - it's a good size bowl with not average amount of noodles, only 1 piece of pork I found a bit dry & a little fatty, some seaweed, 1 soft boiled egg, tiny piece of spinach, & the soy flavor tonkotsu soup. Next time I got to tell waitress "stiff & heavy" - stiff for noodles, heavy for flavor. Something like that.

B. got Chu Kara ("really spicy but still delicious"-menu said) - it was a little much spicy he said, he would get one a bit less spicy. $8.90.

FREE hot tea - didn't have to pay extra.

One glass of Beer $4.90 - B. drank it all.

Total before tip $30.22. Charged it.

  1. Union City's become a mini-hotspot for ramen places (this one, Tadamasa, Men-oh). I haven't gone to Yokohama Iekei yet but will soon. Maybe Wednesday.

    1. Do you know if the takoyaki is made from scratch, or is it the frozen and reheated kind?

They didn't give me a straight answer, but I think it's frozen & fried there.

It was open Christmas Eve & I got black garlic ramen $9.80 asked for stiff & heavy - it was pretty good. Rich broth & chewier noodles.

Rice ball $2.90 for one was just ok.

Tsukune - chicken meat on sticks (2) was $3.90 & pretty tasty.

        separate bathrooms in the back.
