Pub lunches a nice drive from Dublin?

  • 6

My husband and I are going to be in Dublin for the holidays and I am looking for some places we could take his father for a nice drive outside the city for a great lunch. In the past we have been to the Anglers Rest in the Strawberry Beds and had lovely meals. We eat everything, but I would especially love some sea side places with good seafood. Can't wait to get to Dublin and eat at the winding stair! (One of my all time favorite restaurants)
Thanks so much.

  1. For seafood, try Caviston's in Glasthule. There are some great coastal walks nearby and the latest lunch sitting (3.00 pm I think) is very relaxing.

      I agree on Caviston's.

Slightly further out and also with some nice walks nearby is the Dalkey village area. There are many pubs there, ones that I have had at least okay food in the past are Finnegans, the Magpie Inn and The Queens.

Thanks so much, I do know Cavistons and Dalkey really well. It is beautiful. I was thinking just a little further afield.

It's not at the sea side, but The Roundwood Inn in County Wicklow is cosy and characterful and serves good, fresh seafood. It's about 20 miles South of Dublin.
          A. Caviston in Greystones is a little closer and is on the sea, but is a restaurant rather than a pub.

Thank you so much, and I never should have said pub. We are quite happy with a lovely restaurant. The roundwood inn looks really great and exactly the kind of thing we are looking for!

Great to hear it fits the bill. If you do want some restaurant (rather than pub) options, just ask.
