  1. Clever. And living in Tahoe/Reno, I want to weep as there are NO places with XLB in the area :(

    1. That's about as creative a piece as I've ever seen. Bravo to Tien Nguyen.

      1. Awesome, much better than the top 10 format. Clever indeed.

        1. Something like this runs through my head every weekend. I'm glad someone did this instead of another lame top 10 list.

            Me too!
            Love it, ThiN.

"Tien Nguyen", who is not the same as Thi Nguyen. One is off somewhere teaching philosophy, the other one just co-wrote R Choi's new book.

              petty, but important, difference ;)

I really hope LAW paid her more than the regular fare for this piece. Though since it won't appear in print, I doubt it. Which is sad, because that was probably the most seminal piece of food "writing" in LA for 2013.

Thanks for the clarification TC - stupid-ass white-boy assumption on my part.

Off-Topic ? -Any booze yet at Chengdu Taste?

No, and it's not a top priority... However, they are serving PM Cameron's new fave -- cilantro meat balls -- right now.

I think Tony just mentioned a couple months back to grab a few brewskis at the car at the parking lot and you'll more than good to go.

                    NO joke.

How much do these freelance writers get paid for this piece ?

Or the round up done by Jgold acolytes for the Times ?

For instance, how much does our esteemed CW get paid for her puff pieces ????

                    Just curious. Thanks man.

              2. Wow, I'm going to print this out!

                1. Wonderful! Loved the Robert Therrien/Wang Xing Ji reference. Bravo, Thi N.!

                  1. Awesomeness. Thanks for sharing!

                      1. I will have to pocket this for future reference.
