What's Up with The Raleigh Times Bar?

rockycat Dec 4, 2013 04:33 AM

The Raleigh Times Bar has always been my go-to downtown for an easy, all family friendly, casual meal. I've always loved it for what it is, but the last few times I've been there the food has been distinctly "meh." Last night was probably my last visit. The food was even more carelessly prepared than usual and the taste was just kind of okay.

So, two questions. Has anyone else had similar experiences there and what's up with it? And, any suggestions where I should be going instead?

its full of downtown club trash, tourists, and walmart shoppers. all the hipsters that made it great have left for cooler pastures. there are lots of much better places to frequent, without feeling like cattle, or treated like crap by the staff

So now that you've dissed a significant percentage of the local population, none of which provides a reasonable explanation of RT's decline, what are the names of the downtown places that you feel are much better? As I said, I'd like to find a new place. Oh, and I'm not really into "hipster" places. If I wanted that, I'd move back to Brooklyn.

thats just my point, it expanded, had a high churn rate of "cool" employees + customers, now instead of artisan its an also ran. I hate to say its been gentrified but thats what happened. Kind of like how Greenlight is the new Fox Liquor.

Well we all agree that RTB is no longer what it was a few years ago, What are the new places to try instead?

Maybe the Station? I haven't been but it seems like it might be a similar concept.

I haven't been either, but a friend who works nearby was very unimpressed with them. That bumped them way down my "to try" list.
