Lunch at Louie's (SOMA) [San Francisco]

DeborahL Dec 3, 2013 05:34 PM

The day before Thanksgiving the remnants of the CHOW crew went to lunch at Louie's. The host/barman (Joey?) was extremely accommodating, fitting our party of seven into several tables pushed together. (The place is not very big so it was much appreciated that they didn't just keep giving away two-tops until the place emptied out, but instead pushed tables together until they could seat us.)

Among us we had the fish sando (flounder with chow chow), the grilled cheese (with pimiento cheese and Granny Smith apple, plus squash soup of the day), the house burger, the patty melt, the chicken sando (there were two orders of this one), and the Bolito Misto sando (pork belly, tongue, and brisket). Their menu must get updated periodically because this online version doesn't show the patty melt, and the grilled cheese is listed with provolone and tomato:

The food came pretty quickly, and all of the plates together, nice for a large party. Everyone seemed mostly pleased with their lunches, and agreed it'd been worth the 15-minute wait to sit down here. My grilled cheese was very good: The pimiento cheese was milder than expected, and the Granny Smith, in contrast, tasted sweeter than normal. (A good thing because I'm a sweet-apple fan, not a tart-apple fan.) The burger got high marks; the patty melt not as high ("really greasy," according to my coworker). With drinks and tip, it was still under $20 per person.

I'd go back here again: It's a cool little spot with good food and good atmosphere.

Thanks for this report, Deborah -- looks like another good lunch spot for the SO near his SF office!
