Maison du Chocolat

mocro Nov 30, 2013 09:46 AM

I have a friend whose favorite chocolate is Maison du Chocolat with stores in NYC and Paris. Any recs for similar quality chocolates locally? I live in Pasadena if that makes a difference. Thanks!

FWIW, I recommend the reviews on this site when it comes to chocolate.

The site ranks La Maison third out of hundreds for boxed chocolates, which it describes as "across the board, merely magnificent."

I'm replying to my own post! La Maison du Chocolat told me they're doing free shipping for orders over $60 December 4-17th (isn) and you can specify a date in the future.

I just ship from La Maison. They were offering free overnight shipping last week. The quality is really a few steps above.

I'm more upset NYC and Miami have/are getting Laduree and LA gets nada :(

I would trade Laduree for Pierre Herme if ever provided the option but am still envious Miami is getting a Laduree. Also wouldn't mind a Shake Shack, which Miami has as well.

I thought the flavors were more interesting at Pierre Herme (eg passion fruit and chocolat) but the classic flavors better done at Laduree (eg. pistachio). In either case, no macarons for LA. Miami also has a Paul Boulangerie. Good croissants and pastries and while the baguettes are not necessarily the best, it would still be an upgrade in LA.

I've had really good macarons at Sofitel LA once but they were given as gifts upon checking in and I'm not sure they sell them on a regular basis. When I remarked how good they were, they told me they fly the macarons in from Paris.

Good to know about Sofitel macarons. Will recommend the hotel to out of town friends when they visit LA. I may have to accompany at check-in though ;)

I checked, extra large size is $380, maybe not.
