Suggestions for a large group.

Hi! I will be travelling to San Diego for a conference in January. We typically bring our group out to dinner and was hoping for some suggestions. We will be anywhere from 35 to 90 people (will know in a few weeks). We tend to like places that aren't overly formal but that have really great food. We'll be staying at the Marriott Marquis and/or other hotels around the convention center. Thanks so much for any suggestions. Much appreciated! Keri

  1. You should post this again after you know the size of your party. There is not an insignificant difference between 35 and 90 people.

The good news is that there are many suitable options in/around the convention center to suit your needs.

    Just need more definite info.

    1. Hmmmm. I'm thinking...Cafe Chloe, located just outside the Gaslamp at 721 9th Avenue. It is a small place; they have a room for larger parties, though I am unsure of the capacity. Perhaps you could entertain a buyout? Their food is wonderful.

      1. I was at a conference at the Marriott Marquis about a month ago. I was invited to 3 large group/ client dinners. One was very casual at a place on the boardwalk just north of the hotel. Can't remember the name, but if you call the hotel they would know. We were about 30 people and the private room could probably have accommodated another 25 at least.

I went to another dinner at the Palms which is a short walk from the hotel. We had a group of about 20 in a private room with a fixed menu. Not super fancy, but not as casual as the first place.

The third dinner was at Ostera the Fishhouse (the spelling could be wrong). Very high end. We were about 30 people in a private room. I think they have another larger private room. Food was excellent if you're willing to spend that much.

So, all three were good. Just depends on your price point.

Palms will close by the end of the year

        2. Thank you for all the replies. This is the hardest meal for me to plan all year because it takes a while before we know who's all coming. But as I get a firmer grasp on our attendance this shear, I will re-post. Thanks again!!
