Otto Enoteca on 5th ave/8th st?

Anyone been recently? Reviews I've read have really ranged from the great to the not so great. I've made a reservation for Saturday night, I'm looking forward to it despite so-so opinions. Thanks in advance!

  1. You'll be fine at Otto. I love the sausage and escarole and the tomato and braised pork pastas, as well as nearly all of the vegetable sides. The octopus is very well prepared and the gelatos are first rate. Pizzas there don't interest me, but it could be good to share one if you're a table of four or more.

We're only a table of two, I'm really eager to try their ricotta and the agnolotti. Also, as you said, the gelato, especially the concord grape and olive oil ones.

I think the pizzas are the best thing there, maybe the salads too. I found the pastas too salty. I've had 3 different ones there.

I agree with all of that. The pastas are terrific. So are the meat platters. The wine list is vast and fairly priced.

The pizzas don't interest me either. In fact I think they're thoroughly mediocre at best.

Thanks to everyone, it pretty much confirmed nay on the pizza, yay for everything else.

        2. If you're interested they have an amazing wines by the glass selection, including a lambrusco

          1. I wouldn't say it's "great" but it's good and a good deal for the money.

            1. Joining the chorus of those underwhelmed by the pizzas. The salumi and apps are excellent though.

              1. I don't know if I've ever actually even had pizza there, but I will agree with those that say the pastas are good (and a good value). It's a consistent restaurant—not mind-blowing, but plenty good. It's also one of my top choices for a larger party with a picky eater or two.
