Pizzeria Toro Temporarily Closed

I was talking with a co-worker last week who mentioned that his apartment was destroyed by a fire at a wood-oven pizza place. Oh yeah, I say, where's that? Downtown Durham? Oh crap. And really glad I'd found a last-minute reservation at One on Friday instead of driving to Durham for pizza like we'd originally planned :-).

Yes, and a serious one at that. Significant damage to some of the residential units above the restaurant. I hope they'll be able to open back up again, but a friend of mine in the restaurant business thinks they'll have a tough time getting insurance at this point. The owners, for their part, state a determination to reopen.

My co-worker told me today they're trying for January 1, and that he thought they might already be doing carry out.

They are doing pop-up dinners at The Cookery during the hiatus. Get on The Cookery's e-mail list and Facebook for updates.

Any word on when Pizzeria Toro will re-open? I seem to remember the target was May.

Thanks cd. I'm not on facebook so had only checked their website.

Chomping at the bit for some decent wood-fired pizza.
