Bison/Buffalo meat in the Seattle area

  • 6

Happy Holidays - it's been a long while since I've posted here, but thought I'd see if anyone had any pointers for a local (ish) source for Bison meat. I ordered a couple of Buffalo ribeyes from D'Artagnan a while back and really fell in love with it. I would like to find a place around here that sells it so as to avoid D'Artagnan's rather steep prices & shipping. I'm looking for steaks, not ground, if that makes any difference.
Thanks in advance!

  1. Fred Meyer pretty regularly carries buffalo. Not every day, but every couple of months I pick it up there.

    1. I'd call Golden Steer in Bellevue to see if they have it or can get it.

I also like the meats from Silvana Meats. I don't see bison listed, but I'd give them a call to see if they can get it. Silvana is a short less than an hour drive from Seattle.

      1. A friend from work went out to Silvana this past saturday and picked up a gorgeous 2" thick bone-in ribeye. I did call prior to her trip to see if they had buffalo steaks and you're right - they don't have them there but can get them from a nearby source. I'll plan a trip out there sometime soon and order some in advance if possible. Also will check out Fred Meyer - thanks!

I just got back from a Christmas shopping trip to La Conner and hit Silvana Meats on the way home. Got short ribs to braise in beer, balsamic and tomato paste sometime this and also asked about their bison. They only carry ground bison, but said steaks are available through Lone Boot Buffalo, 360/384-4161. You can call them and make arrangements to pick the meat up at Silvana. I would probably close the loop by calling Silvana to let them know when the agreed upon delivery date is...

        2. I think it's on the exotic meat list at University Poultry and Seafood? I was in there last week and I'm fairly certain I saw it on there. Might be worth a phone call.

Didn't even think of University - thanks for the tip. I'll give them a ring today. Cheers!
