Just don't tell the ravioli contingent.

                1. re: TheOffalo

C'mon Peter, you *do* realize that some fungus are spherical ...

                  Not saying, just sayin'.

                        1. re: JAB

Is takotaki refered to as an octopus pancake or octopus ball?

Pancake may imply the coin shape not what it's made of. Just sayin'. ;-)

                          1. re: Porthos

I failed in my effort to defend wiener's balls. ;>) Every definition I looked at stated either thin or flat.

                              1. re: wienermobile

Takoyaki is the Japanese savory version.

                            1. re: Porthos

Y'know, there are pancakes with 'shrooms ... they call them "pannkakor med svampfyllning!"

                              1. re: ipsedixit

If pancakes won, I was going to do potato pancakes.

Really though, the fun is in funghi. Just sayin'.

A mound of dough drenched in syrup is not appealing to me. 1 bite a year off of someone else's plate is good enough for me.

                                1. re: Porthos

I think all of these nominations are good candidates.

                                  Vote, and eat on!

                                  1. re: Porthos

I'm with you on the fugnhi, of course, just sayin" but what are we really sayin' ??????

                                    1. re: kevin

tangerine trees and marmalade sky......... TASTY

                                    2. re: Porthos

The only food that makes waffles seem close to edible (to me), is/are (tough conjugation) pancakes. But then, there are the type you wrap around Beijing Duck and Moo Shu Pork, I suppose.

                                      1. re: Ciao Bob

Wow, shit, I guess I might just be a member of the anti-pancake club.

I thought I was the only one though I do enjoy waffles (here's looking at you Pann's) and french toast (sometimes).

                                        1. re: kevin

I, too, am anti-pancake. Simply boring.

                                          1. re: SilverlakeGirl

You are all pancake traitors! Every last one of you. I will remember this…Does your fire station or high school ever have an AYCE Fungi breakfast? I don't think so. Let my EGGO's go.

                                              1. re: wienermobile

Flat, round and requiring copious amounts of butter and maple syrup to become palatable.

                                                1. re: steve h.

As Mr. Wonderful always says "You are dead to me."

                                                2. re: wienermobile

You gonna go do one in person or just post online photos? ;-)

I'll vote for it next month if it doesn't win. Promise. Doing potato ones and ones wrapped around Peking duck for sure though.

                                                  1. re: Porthos

                                                    International House of Fungi (IHOF)?

                                                    1. re: Porthos

Does okomomiyaki count as a pancake? What about Korean pancakes (pajun et al)?

                                                        1. re: ipsedixit

Seems no one has mentioned them in this food fight. I just want emphasize that this is not as narrow of a category as some may think.

                                                    2. re: wienermobile

                                                      You're killing me WM!

                                                      PANCAKES WAFFLES AND FRENCH TOAST

                                                3. re: Ciao Bob

I'm with ya. I tend to enjoy savory foods more.

I will take a nutella and banana crepe when in Paris though. The one time where I like the sweet version better than the savory version.

                                                4. re: Porthos

Broaden your definition if it wins.

                                                  1. re: JAB

I can do much more more with funghi and/or pasta though :-)

Truffles be a spherical funghi and I'll be at Providence in a couple of weeks. Looking to put that over some pasta chitarra.

King trumpet mushrooms with soft egg at Tar and Roses.

Can't wait to get another round of Bestia's porcini pappardelle with fava and mixed mushroom ragu.

                                                    1. re: Porthos

With funghi, the majority of the time, it's not the main ingredient. Remember the % thing with soup?

                                                      1. re: JAB

I remember it was overridden :-)

                                          2. re: Porthos

Æbleskiver (Danish meaning apple slices (singular: æbleskive)) are traditional Danish pancakes in a distinctive shape of a sphere. Æbleskiver are cooked on the stove top by baking in a special cast iron pan with several hemispherical indentations. Batter is poured into the oiled indentations and as the æbleskiver begin to cook, they are turned with a knitting needle, skewer or fork to give the cakes their characteristic spherical shape. Æbleskiver are not sweet themselves but are traditionally served dipped in raspberry, strawberry, lingonberry or blackberry jam and sprinkled with powdered sugar.

Clever way to get "balls" on DOM Ipse...just sayin'.

Don't be messin' with my balls. Just sayin'.

All caps or it didn't happen... ;). Like my vote for PANCAKES & WAFFLES & FRENCH TOAST which will hopefully push it to the top! Hmmmmm. ...those little circle waffle cone thingies at peddlers ice cream... Hmmmmm.

                                                      1. re: Dommy

... which is why I intentionally did not use all caps...

+1 for PANCAKES, WAFFLES, AND FRENCH TOAST

                                                          1. Little over 12 hours left to vote.

Unless the Fungus contingent wants to spend December fasting or eating Pancakes, Waffles and French Toast, time to do some campaigning.

Remember, vote often and vote once.

By my count Pancakes are winning by just 2 votes.

The pasta guys could switch... :)
