Quality Ricotta and European Flour in Lower Westchester?

Jim Leff Nov 26, 2013 07:20 AM

Where would you send someone to buy 20 pounds of top-quality ricotta in lower Westchester county?

How about a reasonably large quantity of fancy European flour for pasta making? (maybe Fairway in Pelham carries this?)

It's a little ways, but I would check with Tarry Market for these items. (Port Chester)

At Tarry Market, you'll pay 2-3x as much for a ricotta that won't be as good as the house-made one at Calandra's.

Don't think A&S has 00flour. Whole Foods possibly, Fairway or order from King Arthur baking co.

Funny, I was thinking Dante's for the ricotta too.

You're saying A&S has euro flour?

Yes, you can call to ask for the specific brands.

A & S has ricotta too and I'm sure it's very good, I have never tried it though. I regularly get cheese at Dante's and have never had a bad or even mediocre cheese they are consistently terrific in that department.

Make sure you sample the ricotta before buying it. I've had less than great experiences with Dante's. I'd even ask to sample it at A&S

My vote is still Calandra for the ricotta because of the volume they move, especially during the onset of the holidays.

A&S pork store, Yonkers. Call first because of the large quantity.
Dante's maybe for good ricotta as well.
