Driving LA to Vegas on Thanksgiving Day

Family drive to Vegas from the Palisades on Turkey Day. We are set for a nice dinner in LV, but want to break up the horrendously boring drive with a brunch/lunch-hour meal, that won't ruin our dinner appetites, but is something decent to eat. 2ish hours outside of LA will be perfect. Any suggestions?

  1. I doubt anything will be open and there really is nothing anyways. Just stock up on some snacks and take a break at the rest stop.

Although they will probably close early (maybe 2PM or so).

Thanks, Serv. Good call. They will be open until at least 2:00, depending on how busy (and we should be in Barstow by noon).

I'll be interested in your report if this works out. Be careful on that highway. It's better than it used to be but too many people in too big a hurry still...

      2. Where did you end up and how was it?

I am wondering if one can even get out of LA in two hours on T-Day remembing my own horrendously slow crawls across that area on past T-Days myself.

I wanna thank you, Serv, for the great rec. Lola's worked out perfectly! Maybe pigged out a little too much for a lunch on Turkey Day, given that we had a res that evening at Charlie Palmer's Steak in Vegas; but the food was very good. Carnitas fries and bacon quesadillas. And the nicest people. Good call to break up that horrible drive. Somehow we made room the next day for arepas at Viva Las Arepas (but that's a topic for another board).

Really glad it worked out for you. I find that for a lot of reasons things tend not to work out. So when they do it makes me smile. Thanks for reporting back.
