La Condesa Closed -- Alternate suggestions?

ahoskins Nov 25, 2013 10:21 AM

We will be in Austin over Thanksgiving weekend and were planning to go to La Condesa for dinner one evening. Just learned that it is closed temporarily due to a fire. Can anyone give us alternate suggestions for a Mexican dinner? We like both Mexican and Tex-Mex, and price is not really an option so long as the food/service warrant what we pay.

I haven't seen other reviews for Hecho en Mexico (down on William Cannon), and it was my first time, but the lady and I were blown away by the three different mole sauces on the chicken enchiladas. I also loved the deeply dark red (ancho chili broth) Sopa Azteca. Chips and salsa were ho hum nothing special but that mole - it may be the best we've had anywhere. Fish tacos looked fantastic that were buzzing by everywhere.

El Naranjo has pleased us greatly. Parking is tough, but the food is worth it.

Check out El Alma on Barton Springs road. Never disappoints.
