Source for smoked trout in MD suburbs of DC

tjeffreyjonesmd Nov 25, 2013 05:59 AM

I always make a smoked trout mousse for Thanksgiving and have struck out at my usual source, H Mart. Once upon a time, I traveled to Sutton Place Gourmet (now Balducci's) in north Bethesda. They failed me several years ago. Anyone know of other sources near Olney like the "gourmet" Safeway, Harris-Teeter or even Wegman's or other places as possibilities?

May not be close enough, but I think you'll find it at Snyder's in Silver Spring. Call first.

Wow...a blast from the past. I used to live near Snyder's and shop there regularly. Now I'm gonna have to go back and check it out even if they don't have the trout.

Wegman's usually has it in a freezer case near the fresh seafood.

What a great choice - you've got my mouth watering!

Try calling Whole Foods to see if they have it. I've seen it in the past at the Reston Whole Foods (near the fish counter --- same place as the smoked salmon), but don't know if it is a regular thing.

You can get filets of smoked trout at Trader Joe's. Not just the ones in the tins in oil (which they have and are yummy), but also filets in vacpac usually with the smoked salmon.

Thanks for all the tips...I ended up at the Catonsville H Mart unexpectedly and they had nice packages of two trout.

You may try the smoked fish stall at Union market - They have different flavors of smoked salmon, maybe trout too....

Bit far from your reach, but Neopol of Belvedere Square in north Baltimore has pretty good version of smoked trout among others including a very good smoked mackerel spread.
