Jumpin' Jays Fish Cafe-Portsmouth

  • 0

Husband bought tickets to the Mavericks at the Portsmouth Music Hall on a whim, so we started the night at Jumpin' Jays's bar for a bite.

Clam chowder was very smoky/bacony...not my preference but not the worst.
6 jumbo cold shrimp were perfect, lots of horseradish for the sauce. really good, kind of old school shrimp cocktail.
crab cakes with a little slaw on the side. lots of crab, maybe could use a little more seasoning. really liked the slaw
crispy fried calamari was excellent, not chewy, hot peppers fried up with the calamari, all sitting on a chili sauce that was pretty good, dipped the crab cakes in it, helped them out a bit.
the creme brulee was a little too soft, but it wasn't cold which I really dislike.
a pretty good wine list and some of the cocktails looked really interesting.

its shuck-a-buck on Tuesdays and the oysters were moving fast.
We'll head back, lots of interesting things to try.
