Restaurant recs with an 8-year-old in Chicago?

Hi, going to Chicago with our eight-year-old for the weekend. Does anyone have any brunch/dinner recs? He's not terribly picky, but also not terribly adventurous. Thinking about Au Cheval for dinner one night. Also maybe Hot Doug's. Any ideas for a good pizza (but not deep-dish; more like wood-fired) or Italian place, or maybe fried chicken, etc? Also breakfast/brunch. We'll be just off N. Michigan Ave. Thanks!!!

Also they are cash only, closed Sundays, & don't serve dinner.

Don't miss Portillos on Ohio St. for a Chicago-style hot dog and/or an Italian Beef Sandwich.

I don't know that I would stand in line at Hot Dougs with an 8-year old over the weekend (when they have duck-fat fries) outdoors in November.

Quartinos is probably not one of the best Italian restaurants in town, but it's pretty good and very child-friendly.

The deep dish places routinely mentioned - Lou Malnati's and Pizanoa do make an excellent thin crust pizza -
