Where to get great pasta in SF on short notice?

Looking for a place that makes great fresh pasta for next Tuesday night. So far Flour & Water, Cotogna an La Ciccia are coming up empty on Open Table. Help please!

  1. Have you called La Ciccia? I don't think they put all their tables online.

SPQR comes to mind, though I haven't been lately. Or Piccino.

Or the new Acquerello spinoff, which I haven't tried.

La Ciccia is closed all next week for Thanksgiving :(

    2. At what time and for how long are you prepared to wait in line?

Based on a recent visit, I'd second Piccino : http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/921158

Flour & Water takes walk-ins, so if you don't mind getting on the queue at 5pm and eating at 6pm, which is what we did a few weeks ago on a Saturday, you might be able to get in. YMMV. On that visit, the agnolotti had a good filling, but the pasta was undercooked and hard at the seams. Not the luxurious texture you'd want in a fresh pasta. It might not be what you're looking for, but they had an excellent extruded chocolate pasta with pork sauce.

Assuming reservations aren't possible, what's the walk-in wait usually like at Perbacco? It's tough to beat their quality.

The two times I've walked in there was no wait.

Should be low wait time on a Tues. A weekend is a different story.

        2. Locanda does a very nice job. Open late too.

'Ware reported chef changes at Seven Hills and Farina as noted by RobertL and Melanie: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/8172...

                2. Last night I had a pasta dish at Serpentine that I really loved. They don't do a lot of pasta, but I'm still thinking about that one.

                  1. Thank you all for your help. We ended up at Flour & Water and had a great time. Started of with cocktails at Trick Dog and then showed up in line at about 5:10pm. There were a few groups in front of us, but we got seated at a table right away.

Standouts were the beet chitarra with dungeness crab and the garganelli with duck confit. Love the way the fresh pasta just soaked up the flavors and heightened them.
